Henry Benjamin Anderson, Jr., 84, of Kansas City, MO passed away June 13, 2011 at his home. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday June 21, 2011 with visitation from 12-1:00pm at D.W Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park KS. Burial will follow at Dearborn Community Cemetery, Dearborn, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Ben was born Sept. 11, 1926 in St. Joseph, MO to Henry and Armeda Anderson. Ben grew up in Jefferson City, MO where he graduated from high school. Ben earned his B.S in Civil Engineering from Iowa State in Ames, Iowa. He then went on to earn his Masters in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri Columbia. Ben loved baseball, he lettered through college and was drafted by the New York Yankees, where he played several seasons for the KC Blues AAA team. Ben served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Ben had an outstanding career with Burns & McDonnell for 38 years, and was awarded B&M Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. Ben also worked for the Missouri State Highway Department and Scott Engineering of Springfield, MO where he retired. Ben was also a member of Holmeswood Baptist Church.
Ben was married to Merla Anderson for 33 years, and was preceded in death by his second wife Susan Anderson. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Leila Anderson and his step-son David Prayson. Survivors include his daughters Karrie Anderson-Kniffin and Danielle Nicole Anderson, Granddaughters Angel Anderson, Kaitlyn Long, Errika Kniffin, and Alicia Kniffin, Step-sons Tim Prayson, Tony Prayson, and Steve Prayson, and Nieces Susie Long and CindyHopkins.
