Henrietta Fleming-Loughary passed away on June 27th, 2015. She was born September 4, 1915 in Richmond, California, the daughter of Julia and Henry Dunning. She graduated from Westport High School, Kansas City, Missouri, and attended the Kansas City Art Institute, and the University of Missouri Kansas City earning a Master’s Degree. She married Clay Fleming in 1936. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1986. They raised two sons.
Mrs. Loughary was active in many organizations. She was an elder in Overland Park Presbyterian Church, and was involved in the Boy Scouts, Parent-Teachers Association, American Association of University Women (AAUW), past President of Shawnee Mission La Sertoma Club, and others. She taught for twenty-seven years in the Kansas City School District and the Center School District. After retiring from teaching she studied Art, especially water colors. She had many juried and solo exhibitions. She was an avid reader.
After Clay Fleming’s passing she married a long-time friend, Waldean “Dean” Loughary. They lived for 24 years on a farm near Archie, MO. They traveled extensively to China, Hawaii, Europe, and all over the United States in their RV. They were active dancers with the Top Railers Square Dance Club. She enjoyed the Busy Bees quilting group at the Archie United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Dean, and her sons, James Fleming of Newtown, PA, and John Fleming and wife Barbara of Nixa, MO; grandchildren, Scott Fleming of Nixa, MO, Wade Fleming of Palatine, IL, Joanna Fleming of Newtown, PA, and four great-grandchildren. Step-daughter Michele “Jill” Middleton of Grain Valley, MO.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held 1:00pm, Friday, July 3rd, 2015 at Archie United Methodist Church, the northeast corner of Ohio and W. Chestnut in Archie, MO.
