Helen L. Welte, 97, died peacefully on January 27, 2011. She was born Aug. 18, 1913, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Chester and Mabel Everhart. She went to school in Wichita, where she graduated from North High School. After attending Business College for a year, she married Dunkin Andrew Welte in 1933. She strived for excellence in all she did, including her creative design and sewing talents. She enjoyed needlework and crafts of various kinds throughout her life. Her family admired her strong spirit and benefited from her considerate explanation of her views. A sister, Charlotte Everhart, and her brother, Bill Everhart, preceded her in death. Survivors include her sister, Marilyn Everhart Isham, Wichita, Kan.; her three children, Donna Welte Sutton, Leawood, Kan., Vicki Welte Martin, Plano, Texas, and David Albert Welte, Kansas City; 10 grandchildren, six great- grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, in Friendship Hall at Village Presbyterian Church, where Helen and Dunkin were members since the early 1960s. A memorial service for family and friends will be at 2 p.m. in the Chapel. The Church is at 6641 Mission Rd., Prairie Village, Kan.
