Helen Reynolds

December 29, 1924 — December 29, 2011

Helen Reynolds, 87, of Leawood, Kansas passed away on December 29, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 11:00a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, Overland Park, Kansas.

Helen was one of eleven children born on December 9, 1924 to Henry J. Voth and Mary Ann Janzen-Voth. Her father was a farmer and all the children attended the local school and worked with their father on the farm. Helen met her first husband Robert "Bob" Benson in Hutchinson, Kansas. They married and were later assigned to Whidbey Island, WA when their daughter Lyn, was born. After Bob was killed in a plane crash, Helen and Lyn moved back to live with Helen's sister in Wichita. She later married Max Howard, whose wife had died of polio earlier and who had two children Natalie and Bruce. She and Max raised their children together. Both Natalie and Lyn had polio and Helen took on the responsibility for getting both girls to all their medical appointments and physical care. Max passed away in 1983 and Helen married Gene Reynolds who had two grown daughters, Laura and Barbara. They shared 25 happy years together living in Overland Park, Kansas. Helen and Gene enjoyed a love of golf and travel and their dog, Buddy. Helen and Gene were members of Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church and Brookridge Country Club. Helen was physically very active until she began experiencing the impact of several illnesses. Despite the illness, she kept busy and mentally sharp. She loved to play bridge with friends, and was always reading or working crossword and other word games. Never afraid to voice her opinion, she had a great sense of humor and told some great jokes. Helen was not afraid of death, having made her peace with her Savior; Jesus Christ.
She leaves behind brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many others who knew her.

Helen requested that in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the donor's own church or their favorite charity to carry on their good work.
