Helen "Elenl" Gregory, 67, fell asleep peacefully surrounded by her family and friends in her home on Saturday, December 17, 2009.
Born February 23, 1942 in Armourdale, KS, she lived a life dedicated to her family, friends, and her Greek Orthodox faith.
Helen is known for her incredible sense of style and humor. She was an admired decorator and reveled in the holidays. Lovingly known as Mommie and Nunnie, her strong Greek will and smile will be missed. Helen fought an incredible and graceful battle with cancer for the past ten months that taught us all the value of hope and humility. She asked that everyone get their annual health screenings and always go to the doctor. Those who were touched by her learned that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives.
A life-long member of St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church, she served with pride and cooked annually for the Greek festival. Eleni will be remembered for her love of family, deep friendships, and her skills in the kitchen.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years Gregg Gregory of the home. Her children Christine and Michael Gregory (and Jerrod Sumner), grandpup Myko, brother George Kehayias, her dear friend Sally Hurtado, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Steve and Grace Kehayias, her brother Chris Kehayias, and family pets Shasi and Tashi.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, December 22 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, from 6-8pm with the Trisigion and words of remembrance at 7pm. A memorial service will be held at St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church, 8100 West 95th Street on Wednesday, December 23 at lOam followed by a graveside service at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
Memorials are welcome to the Memorial Fund of St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church. A special thanks to all who came together to care for Eleni and her family including the Oncology nurses of Research Medical Center.
