Gus (Kosta) Gregory, age 79, Overland Park, KS passed away the 25th of September, 2014 at home. Gus was born in Thessaloniki Greece and immigrated to the United States in 1955. He would joke that he arrived with Christopher Columbus as it was on Columbus Day that he first arrived in the US. He was the owner of Gregory Dental Lab in Mission, KS for over 40 years. He was also the proprietor of Theretron Megas Alexandros in Halkidiki Greece where he would spend summers with his family.
Gus was a communicant of both the Annunciation and St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Churches in Kansas City, MO and Overland Park, KS respectively. At the Annunciation Gus was a former member of the Parish Council, food chairman for the annual Festival and on the building committee. His contributions to the building committee focused on the interior of the church and he was especially instrumental in procuring the hand painted iconography that still adorns the iconostasis from St. John the Theologian Monastery in Souroti, Greece.
Gus was preceded in death by his wife Lottie of blessed memory and his parents Petros and Elpiniki Gligorievitz. Gus was one of ten children and grew up in Thessaloniki during both the Nazi occupation of Greece during WWII and later the Greek Civil War. Both events impacted him and his family greatly. When he became ill he characterized himself as a “survivor” based on his family’s struggles during this difficult time. He is preceded in death by his siblings Vera Gligorievitz, Militza Kaiafas, Michael Gregory, Orson Gregory and Mike Gregory. He also painfully grieved the passing of his nephew Konstantinos (Gus) Gregory and his niece Kelly Aguire. He will be greatly missed by his brothers and sisters, Gregg Gregory, Vicki Aguiar, Freda Harrington and Thomas Gregory. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Peter and Susan Gregory, and Orson and Leia (Haroula) Gregory. Gus had eleven grandchildren, Kosta A., Kosta P., Kate, Michael, Alexander, George, Grace, Fallia, Sara, Pheevos, Orpheas, and a great granddaughter, Adeline Grace. Gus had many god-children by whom he will be greatly missed along with countless friends, and “adopted” family members of all ages from many nationalities and diverse backgrounds. May his memory be eternal.
