Gordon was born on December 14, 1945 in St. Louis, MO. Gordon and Lynn met at Valparaiso University, Lynn’s first day on campus. They were married on February 1, 1969.
Following graduation from the UMKC School of Law, Gordon clerked for the Hon. Charles Shangler of the Missouri Court of Appeals and then the Hon. Elmo B. Hunter of the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri. Gordon enjoyed a successful legal career specializing in construction and surety law. He earned the respect of his clients and his brethren in both the bench and the bar.
Gordon was always youthful and loved the challenge of new activities. He undertook every new interest with enthusiasm whether it was skiing, scuba, sports or hunting with his beloved dogs, Britt and Casey.
Gordon had another hobby that turned into a passion. He completely rebuilt and restored a 1973 Trans Am 455 SD. It won first place in many car shows, especially the “World of Wheels”. He said he built it so he and his son could drive as fast as their heart’s desired – one-quarter mile at a time!
Gordon and Lynn also loved to travel and made yearly trips to Grand Cayman. They were fortunate to develop many memories with their special group of companions affectionately known as “The Travelers”. He undertook an in depth study of Italian to enhance their travels in Italy.
Gordon was a tireless volunteer for his church. His skills and legal knowledge were put to good use with church and school projects. He could often be found with a hammer and other tools fixing something that needed to be done.
Most of all Gordon will be missed for his affable, outgoing nature. No one was ever a stranger for long. His engaging personality was infectious and led to a vast group of people who considered him their friend.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Jeannette Gaebler. He is survived by his wife, Lynn; daughter, Christina Breedlove and her husband Dan, Tonganoxie, KS; son, Brad Gaebler and his wife Angie, Kansas City, MO; four grandchildren, Sophia and James Breedlove and Colin and Emma Gaebler; and his sister, Linda and brother-in-law, Dan Stinnett, Leawood, KS.
