Glenn O. Munger, Jr., 83, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away on Dec. 20, 2009, following recent heart surgery. Glenn was born on Nov. 20, 1926 in Denver, CO to Glen O. Munger and Genevieve June (Connor) Munger.
Glenn enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age seventeen and trained as a radio operator. His first assignment was on the USS Syrma and later the USS LSM. After receiving an honorable discharge in June, 1946, Glenn earned a BS degree at Kansas State University where he joined the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. While at K-State, he met his future wife, Maryellen Phillips, and they were married on September 23, 1950 in Hutchinson, KS. Later in 1953 he earned his MA degree.
Glenn worked as a product manager in the agricultural division of Thompson Hayward Chemical Company for 22 years and for Private Brands Inc. (PBI) for 19 years. He was active in the Navy League for many years and served as editor of the N.L. newsletter. He enjoyed volunteering at the Village Presbyterian Food Pantry and Wayside Waifs.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 59 years, Maryellen; sons Mark Conner (Lauren), Carbondale, CO; Ronald Grant, Logan, UT; and daughter Rebecca (John) Wilson, Salinas, CA; grandchildren Alia, Daniel, Will and Noel; and sister, Nancy Munger McGrath, Denver, CO.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, Dec. 29, 11:00 a.m. at Village Presbyterian Church, Prairie Village, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions to Village Presbyterian Food Pantry or Wayside Waifs.
