Georgia Service

Georgia Mildred Service passed away October 13, 2014.  She was born July 15, 1921 in Huntsville Township, Reno County Kansas, the daughter of Minnie Pleasant Gantz and Lloyd Glenn Hill.
She graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Science in Music.  She continued graduate study at the University of Kansas.  She taught music in various high schools before accepting the position of supervisor of vocal music at Newton High School in Newton, Kansas.
In 1950, Mildred was united in marriage to Alfred Roy Service at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, Kansas.  They shared sixty years of marriage before his death August 27, 2010.  After living in Iowa City, Iowa the couple returned to Baldwin City, Kansas where Alfred was a Professor of Music at Baker University.
She was involved in AAUW, United Methodist Women, PTA and Eastern Star in Baldwin City where she was active in study and service groups. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Baldwin City.  In 1983 the Services transferred church membership to Asbury United Methodist Church in Prairie Village.
Survivors include son Kevin and wife Vicki, daughter-in-law Rita, six grandchildren – Gregory, Nicole, Matthew, Lauren, Kaitlyn and Madison.  She was preceded in death by husband, son Elton, her parents, brother Lawrence Hill, sister Frances Hester.  She is survived by sisters Velma Fox, Wichita and Muriel Thode, Hutchinson and brother Grant Hill Hutchinson.
Memorial service will be held at 9:30 am Friday October 17th at Wesleyan Chapel, Church of Resurrection, 13720 Roe Leawood, Kansas.  Private graveside services will be held in Shawnee Mission Memory Garden.  In lieu of flowers memorial may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue, Kansas City, MO, 64105.  Please offer condolences at www.overlandparkchapel.com.
