Georgia Doolittle

August 16, 1918 — February 4, 2012

Georgia Bonn Witter Doolittle passed away Saturday evening February 4, 2012, in Prairie Village, KS at the age of 93. She was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area.
She was born in 1918 in Merwin, MO and moved to Kansas City as an infant with her parents and two sisters. She grew up in the Brookside area and attended Southwest High School and Kansas City University (now UMKC). She was a schoolmate of Lloyd Doolittle whom she married on July 22, 1942. They made their first home in Massachusetts where Lloyd had recently completed a graduate program at Harvard and where he was employed in a factory making materials for the war effort. After the war they moved back to Kansas City and started a family. In 1947 they bought one of the first homes in Prairie Village where they raised three children. Georgia and Lloyd were original and lifelong members of The Village Presbyterian Church.
In 1956 Lloyd founded a kitchen appliance distribution business, Doolittle Equipment Company. In 1961 the family moved to a home in Mission Hills. They eventually retired to a condo in Corinth Downs in Prairie Village. After Lloyd's death in 2003, Georgia moved to Claridge Court, where she got reacquainted with many of her old Southwest High School friends.
The couple took great pleasure in traveling the world . . . Europe, Japan, South America and all over the United States. Georgia's home was filled with mementos from their many trips. They were also Chiefs and Royals supporters and Georgia especially liked tailgating with their many friends. She was a dedicated social volunteer for several organizations over the years including the Mattie Rhodes
Center, The Red Cross and The Village Church. More than anything, Georgia loved games. She played bridge and Mahjong her whole life.
Georgia lived a long and happy life. She enjoyed great friends, many of whom she missed dearly in her later years. Her grace and humor made the world a better place.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Earl and Bonn McBurney Witter, three sisters and her husband Lloyd. She leaves behind three children, Lloyd Doolittle, Jr. (Peggy Fortenberry Doolittle), Mary Doolittle Crowther (Mac) and John (Jack) Witter Doolittle (Maggie O'Connor Doolittle), nine grandchildren, Nate Doolittle, Katie Doolittle McNeil, Matt Smith, Lucas Smith, Elizabeth (Betsy) Smith, Page Crowther, Caroline Crowther, Finn Doolittle and Fiona Doolittle, three great grand children and seven nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Georgia will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday February 17th at The Village Church, 67th and Mission Road in Prairie Village. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Village Presbyterian Church (913.262.4200) or The American Red Cross (816.841.5252).
