George Vedros, 95, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2012. George was born September 28, 1916 in the Macedonia region of Greece, to Nick and Stella Vedros. He immigrated to the U.S. as a child and served his country in the Navy as a Signalman in the Pacific Theater during WWII. George wed Helen Leondedis in 1942 at St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church, where he and Helen were founding members. George was a beloved coach in the Liondotte and 3 and 2 baseball leagues in Wyandotte County during the mid 1950's-1960's. He worked with his brother, Andy, at the Mission Animal Clinic for many years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Helen, two sons, Gus Vedros Bolingbrook, IL, and Stephen (Jannis) Vedros of Tulsa, OK, four grandchildren, Ashley (Tinoush) Shifteh of Hermosa Beach, CA, Lindsey Vedros of Tulsa, OK, Kara Vedros Bolingbrook, IL, and Cassandra Vedros of Chicago, IL, three siblings, Andy Vedros of Overland Park, KS, Mary Antos of Overland Park, KS, and Alex Vedros of Kansas City, MO, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 22nd, 6-8, with the Trisagion service to be held at 7:00 PM, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel. A Funeral Service will be on Saturday, June 23rd, 10:00 AM, at St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church, 8100 West 95th Street, Overland Park, KS 66212. Interment will follow at D.W.
