George W. Olson, 87, passed away November 23, 2016. He was the 6th child of Walter L. and Harriet I. Olson, born in Dwight, KS on November 8, 1929.
He attended the first four years of grade school at the Rural Hurino Grade School, and finished grade school at the Dwight School. George graduated from Dwight Rural High School in 1947. After spending a few years farming and being involved in a small business in Dwight, he attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1958 with a B.S. and D.V.M. Degrees. Upon graduation, he went to work in Kansas City, MO as a clinician in a small animal clinic, later becoming a partner in that same clinic. George bought Ranch Mart Animal Clinic in Leawood, KS where he practiced from 1965 to his retirement in 1992.
George and Evelyn M. Olson, were married in 1948 and had a daughter, Debra. George and Evelyn were divorced in 1959. He remarried in 1964 to Carolyn Ramsay Dippel.
George was an avid outdoorsman and took the family hunting, fishing, scuba diving and boating. He and Carolyn bought a home at the lake of the Ozarks and the family spent the summers there.
He is survived by his daughter, Debra D. Kershner; stepchildren, Michael Dippel and his wife, Marian, Carla Martens and her late husband, Dennis, James Dippel; grandchildren, Kenneth Kershner, step gradchildren, Nicole Martens, Michael Martens, Jason Dippel (Sara), Dana Pabalo (Brandon); two great step grandchildren, Logan and Finley Dippel.
A private service will be held by the family at a later date.
