Genevieve Bruchman

January 3, 1919 — February 25, 2016

Genevieve Louise (Gorski) Bruchman, who was petite with brown hair and quite attractive at ninety seven years, passed away February 25, 2016 at Kansas City Hospice. Born in Leavenworth, KS, the daughter of coal miner, she met her husband, Robert W. Bruchman, while he was a solider at Fort Leavenworth in a popular dance site called Polish (Poochie) Park, owned by St Casimir Catholic Church starting in the 1920’s and ending in the fifty’s. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, Local 144 in Kansas City and worked at Fashionbilt. Gen started working there at seventeen. During World War II, she switched from sewing garments to parachutes. She would relate this experience to her children with enthusiasm into her later years. In early spring and fall, she enjoyed walking leisurely to Sacred Heart St. Casimir School and especially looked forward to reading and the return walk home. Sunday, after church, Poppa cooked the main meal and Gen gathered the vegetables from the family garden. All of her cousins, nephew and grandparents lived within a block of her home. She recalled she could visit any of her relatives and be greeted graciously, and invited in with an offer of a snack or grapes grown in their garden. Other memories she was fond of reciting was when she would treat her children to lunch at the local dime stores, and the Christmas train at the Jones Store. Her children enjoyed the nursery rhymes and children stories she read them. Gen was quite proud that she helped establish an advertising company with her husband. She survived him by twenty eight years. Genevieve simply grew-up in a world that does not exist anymore.

She is survived by three sons, Ronald, Daniel, and Robert and his wife Pat; granddaughter, Sara Bruchman; grandson, Rob Bruchman and his wife Janell; and two great granddaughters, Emma and Kate. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary (Ziblinksy) Gorski; her three sisters, Frances, Hattie, and Aggie; and two brothers, Jimmy and Stance.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on March 4th, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 7023 W. 71st Street, Overland Park, KS at 10:00 am, with friends and family invited to attend a viewing at 9:00 am. Burial services will be held immediately following at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 8321 Quivira Rd, Lenexa, KS.  Please offer condolences at www.overlandparkchapel.com.
