Frank Piepenbring Jr., 92, passed away on October 14, 2009 at the K.C. Hospice House. Services will be held at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel, Monday, October 19, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Burial to follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Frank was born in KC, MO on June 24, 1917 to Frank and Sylvia Piepenbring. He was raised in KC. MO and attended the Linwood Presbyterian Church. He worked for the Folgers Coffee Co. and enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 8, 1941. In WWII, he was a bombardier and an Intelligence Officer and remained in the Air Force Reserve and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1977. In 1944, he married Louana Etchison of Flora, IL. and they had three children. In 1954, Louana died and in 1955 he married Inez Murray of Enid, OK. While in Enid he managed the Davis Paint Store and joined the Enid Lions Club and another civic organizations. In 1962 he was transferred to KC and moved his family to Overland Park, KS. That same year, he joined the Overland Park Host Lions Club. Frank was the originator of the Lions Club Metcalf Avenue of Flags. He was a member of the Lions Club for 61 years and held the office of Club President, KS District Governor, past president of the Kansas Sight Foundation, and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow International Lions Award. He was also a member of Enid Chamber of Commerce, Enid Retail Merchants Association, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, DeMolay, Abdullah Shrine Temple, and the Lenexa Masonic Lodge. He was a former president of the Nall Hills Home Owners Association, and American Legion Life Member. He was preceded in death by his wife Inez. He is survived by his daughter, Diane Anderson of Bentonville, AR, sons Jack of Maryville, TN, and son Jim Piepenbring of Prairie Village, KS. Grand children: Debbie Riggs, Mindy Daeschner, Erich Piepenbring, Rebecca Anderson, Amy Piepenbring, Sara Salge, and Anna Piepenbring. Great grand children: Jillian Harte and Zach Dawson.
