Florine Dickerson

Florine Theresa Sheeley Dickerson, 82, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away at Villa St. Francis in Olathe, KS, on April 21, 2012. She was born Florine Theresa Sheeley on August 6, 1929, the third of three children to Robert Michael Sheeley and Mary Sheeley. Florine graduated from Olathe High School and then attended St. Theresa's College. Florine married Farrol Dwayne Dickerson in 1949. They had eight children. Florine stayed home to raise the family and once the children were older Florine went back to work in the banking industry. She worked at Overland Park State Bank and Johnson County Bank. Florine was a devout Catholic. She and her husband Farrol were long standing members of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Overland Park, KS, dating back to when it first became a parish until they moved to Raymore, MO. Florine was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. At times, the Dementia took away her memory of her family and her ability to complete simple tasks; it never robbed her of her faith, her quick wit, and her love of children.
There were four things very important to Florine: Faith, family, friends and KU Basketball, Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
A heartfelt thank you to all the loving and caring staff at Villa St Francis that took such great care of our mother and to the loving Hospice nurses from Catholic Community Hospice. Florine was preceded in death by: Her parents, Robert Michael Sheeley, Sr. and Mary Sheeley, her brothers Robert Michael Sheeley II, and William Joseph Sheeley, her son-in-law James Harris and her son, Michael Dickerson. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Farrol Dickerson and five of her sons and two daughters: Richard Dickerson (Barbara), Mary Harris, Timothy Dickerson (Julie), Randall Dickerson (Pearl), Paula Stringfellow (Bill), John Dickerson (Shari), and Douglas Dickerson (Susan).
Florine leaves behind 15 grandchildren, Leslie, Rhea, Matthew, Anna, Theresa, Vincent, Robert, Laura, Eric, Jessica, Christina, Luke, Grant, Sandra and Stacey, and 5 great-grandchildren, Jamie, Ethan, Dasia, Silas, and Daelin.
Visitation will be held at D.W. Newcomer's Overland Park Chapel, Thursday, April 26th, 6-8 PM, with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 27th, 10:30 AM, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 8311 West 93rd Street, Overland Park, KS. Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
