Everett G. Hill, 81, of Overland Park passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 14, 2008 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was an active member of the Cure of Ars Parish in Leawood. Everett lived a full and complete life. He played football and basketball at Lawrence High School. He proudly served in the Army Air Corps World War II in Airborne Reconnaissance. He returned to Lawrence following the war and graduated from the University of Kansas where he played basketball for Phog Allen during the 1944 and 1945 seasons.
Following graduation, he moved to Kansas City. He married Audrey Sprong in 1953. He worked for TWA in the Personnel Department, and then at Bendix/Allied Signal for thirty-two years as Salary Administrator
Among his many hobbies were photography, woodworking, car repair, electrical and plumbing work around his home, those of his friends, and his family. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus serving as an elected officer in the 4th Degree and a member of the Honor Guard.
Everett was a volunteer for many organizations in Johnson County. He worked with AARP as a member of their volunteer income tax assistance group. His wife and he took meals to shut-ins across the county. He was a member of the ?K-Club? and supported the University of Kansas through many donations and purchases of basketball and football season tickets. He attended all of the basketball team reunions conducted by Roy Williams and Bill Self.
Everett is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Audrey. His Sister, Arlene Dieker of Modesto, CA. His sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Virginia of Olathe, Patrick and Carolyn and his grandson Everett Grayson of Blauvelt, NY also survive him. Preceding him in death are his father Leo and mother Lillian, both of Lawrence.
A wake for Everett will occur at D. W. Newcomer?s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf on Friday May 16 from 6 PM to 8 PM. The Rosary will be said starting at 7:00. The Mass of Christian Burial will occur at 10:00 AM on Saturday May 17 at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS. Everett will be laid to rest thereafter at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations made in Everett?s name to either Cure of Ars Catholic Church of Leawood or the American Cancer Society.
