EMMETT E. BAGBY, JR.
On July 24, 1917 Emmett E. Bagby jr. was born in the family home on N. Main in Green Ridge MO to Emmett E. Bagby and Cassandra Mayfield. He grew up in Sedalia MO having spent some of his childhood on a central MO farm and his youth on Broadway in Sedalia. A graduate of Sedalia's Smith Cotton High, Emmett went on to become a Missouri Tiger and a brother in the Beta Theta Pi fraternity there. Emmett was an early WWII draftee who prided himself in opening the first Army hospital laboratory in the European Theater in Londonderry Northern Ireland in 1942. In Belfast, Emmett met his life mate Lucinda Watson, they were wed in January 1944, and married nearly 67 years. Sid preceded Emmett in death September 2010. They are survived by their only son John Watson Bagby, their daughter-in-law Robin Sue Bagby and two devoted grandchildren, Julia Marie Bagby and John Robert (Jack) Bagby, all of Pennsylvania.
Emmett was a metallurgical statistician and quality control engineer for most of his worklife at Sheffield Steel (Armco) at the Kansas City Works. In the steel industry, Emmett was an early developer of statistical quality control methods widely used in modern industry. Emmett also served Armco as the chief safety officer for the Kansas City Works. Emmett was actively engaged in the family farm located in Pettis County MO. Emmett enjoyed fishing, woodworking and automotive tinkering, all interests that Emmett was instrumental in passing on to his son and grandson. He was an avid appreciator of classical music. Emmett loved history, investing, politics, and eventually became a computer enthusiast for most of the last twenty-five years of his life.
Emmett served as deacon at the Cherokee Christian Church in Prairie Village Kansas where the family worshiped. Emmett's service was well-regarded in election politics, scouting, the American Society for Metals, the American Society for Quality Control. Emmett just loved the Chiefs.
Emmett's family and friends will celebrate his life at a service yet to be scheduled in late November at Claridge Court, 8101 Mission Road, Prairie Village KS.
