Elouise ?Ellie? Hickman Whitsitt, 87, of Plaza Manor Nursing in Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on March 9, 2007 at St. Luke?s Hospital from a stroke. Ellie was one of four children born in 1919 to Gladys and Walter Hickman in Golden City, Missouri. Her siblings, Wilma, Corinne, and Walter remember her as a fun loving girl with great sense of humor, an artist, and a love of dance. After attending Southwest Missouri State Teacher?s College, Ellie married Charles Bernard Ludwigs on Valentine?s Day 1939. The young couple moved to Kansas City where her son, Charles David Ludwigs, was born in 1942. Although Mr. Ludwigs was a splendid dancer, a divorce quickly followed. In 1944, Ellie then married Robert Buffington and they had a son, Larry Robert Buffington who resides in Kansas City. In 1966, Ellie married Foster Whitsitt and moved west, first to California, then settled near Portland, Oregon. Upon Mr. Whitsitt?s death, Ellie remained in Portland where she sold residential real estate, painted lovely landscapes, and danced whenever possible. Ellie?s smile, laughter, and zest for life complemented her caring nature, and she frequently returned to the Midwest to help her sisters and family through difficult times. Ellie is survived by her sister, Corinne, brothers and sisters-in law, many nieces and nephews, her two sons, Larry and David and one grand-daughter, Kip Buffington Ludwigs. Memorial services will be 2:00P.M. Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf.
