Elizabeth Anne Purcell, 82, of Prairie Village, KS passed away on Friday, October 24, 2008, after a long illness. Funeral mass will be 11:00 AM , Tuesday, October 28 at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 7023 W. 71st St, Overland Park, KS. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM, prior to the service. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
Elizabeth was born on December 28, 1925, in Kansas City, Mo. After graduating from Westport High School, she married Martin James Purcell on April 20, 1946. Together they raised four daughters and were married for 51 years at the time of Martin?s death in 1997. Betty Anne was a devoted wife and mother known for her warm sense of humor and loving nature. She embraced life and was always sustained by her deep faith in God. She was a steadfast caretaker. No matter how difficult the challenge, Betty Anne always viewed her cup not just as half full, but overflowing. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge, reading, and spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, Betty Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary McCambridge, her sister Mary Ellen Morrow, and her granddaughter Jordan Purcell Holden. She will be greatly missed by her daughters: Jane Rues (Larry), Mary Dey Purcell (Joe Crouthers), Anne Purcell (Gary Gortenburg), and Martha Purcell (Doug Holden); brother: Joseph McCambridge. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Martin Rues, Annie Rues, Sarah Gortenburg (Shawn Fielding), Joseph Gortenburg , James Queen, and Dylan Holden. Betty Anne also left two great grand children: Collin and Thea Fielding. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the exceptional care provided by Somerset Health Center, affiliated with Claridge Court, and for the solace provided by Good Shepherd Hospice. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer?s Association or Good Shepherd Hospice. May God bless you, mother, and give you peace.
