Elizabeth Alice (Huff) Nickey, Overland Park, Kansas passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice or The American Cancer Society.
Bette was born August 17, 1918 in Butler, PA to Oran and Myrtle Huff. She attended Capitol University in Columbus, Ohio and graduated in 1941. After working locally in Butler at TW Phillips Gas & Oil for a couple of years, Bette moved to Washington D.C. and worked at the U.S. State Department Far Eastern Commission at the end of WWII. This is where she met and subsequently married Roger A. Nickey then serving as a Naval Officer. They moved to New York and later settled in Overland Park after another move to Texas. Bette worked for many years at Metcalf State Bank as Executive Secretary to President Ben Craig. Bette is survived by her son, Douglas R. Nickey of High Ridge, MO and her daughter Patricia E. Perritt and her husband, Jack Perritt, of Kerens, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband Roger in 1989. Bette was a wonderful, loving mother, wife and friend with great compassion and caring for others. She always had a positive outlook and lived life with joy and hope. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
