Elizabeth (Betty) Johnston of Overland Park, KS, passed away on May 8, 2014. Celebration of her life will be at 3:30 p.m., May 29, in the Fireside Room at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 9500 Wornall Rd, KCMO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wayside Waifs, 3901 Martha Truman Rd., KCMO 64137.
Born July 18, 1916 in Topeka, KS to Fred and Verna Nims, Elizabeth went on to graduate with honors from Washburn University where she was a member of Delta Gamma and met her husband, LeRoy Johnston who soon became a pilot for TWA. That career led them to a lifetime of world travel. Later she served as a docent at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art for 16 years while successfully pursuing her own interests in painting, sculpting, and enamel work.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother (Fred), sister (Margaret), and husband. She is survived by daughters, Susan Obdyke of Overland Park, Jill Rodick (Steve) of Kansas City, grandchildren Katherine Doherty (Cris) of Olathe, Steven Obdyke (Shannon) of Topeka, Peter Rodick (Leslie) of St. Louis, David Rodick of Kansas City, Jonathan Rodick of Topeka; and five great grandchildren.
