Eleanor Beth (Myers) Marsh, 86 of Overland Park, Kansas passed away peacefully at Delmar Gardens of Overland Park on February 20th, 2011. Visitation and memorial service will be held on Friday, February 25th, at the Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kansas. Visitation will begin at 2pm, and the memorial service will be held at 3pm. Burial at Corinth Cemetery to follow the memorial service.
Eleanor Beth Myers was born April 8, 1924 to Reno Boyd Myers and Olive Zell (Billinger) Myers of Wichita, Kansas. At the age of 16 she presented a musical debut piano recital accompanied by a full orchestra. She graduated with the class of 1941 from Wichita High School East. Although she earned a full scholarship to Friends University she elected to attend Wichita University with her friends. She joined Pi Kappa Phi sorority. After one year she joined Boeing Aircraft Company as a mathematician in the engineering department working on the B29 bomber. When the B29 was completed, Eleanor enrolled in Kansas State University. She became a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. One of the highlights of her KSU years was when the Tri Delta Chapter entertained KSU president Dr. Milton Eisenhower and his wife where Eleanor played the organ for the Eisenhowers at the presidential residence.
A mutual friend introduced Eleanor to Wally Marsh in 1941. They dated until Wally left for the service in May 1943. Upon his return, Wally proposed and they were married February 22, 1946. They set up housekeeping in Kansas City, Missouri. She was employed by R.B. Jones & Sons Insurance Company where she handled business of Lloyd’s of London and their agency Hogg, Robinson and Capel Cure.
Upon the arrival of the first baby, she became a homemaker for 21 years. With two children in college she then joined Halls Plaza, where after several interesting assignments she was promoted to manager of the business office. At one time she was able to detect a large check scam and was awarded a Commendation. Although she was born and raised in Wichita, she became very involved in Kansas City activities. She became a member of the women’s auxiliary of the Swearingen-Lavery American Legion Post 201. She became very interested in her children’s activities, including Brownies, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She also served as president of the Belinder School PTA in Prairie Village. Eleanor was very active with the Jaycee wives of the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Kansas City, Missouri, a past member of the Presidents and Past Presidents Organization of Kansas City, a member of the Kansas City Athenaeum Club, a very active member of the Delta Delta Delta alumni association and a member of the Wichita State University Alumni Association.
Eleanor was a loving and loyal wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She always greeted people with a friendly smile and big blue eyes.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Reno and Olive Myers, older sister Jean Francis who died in infancy and her favorite aunt, Bernice Beth Billinger (Aunt Bum). She is survived by her husband, Wally, four children, Nancy Beth DuVal, Marti Forbes and husband, John, Wally Marsh Jr. and wife, Lynn, Sara Ault, eleven grandchildren, Debby Alexander and husband, Paul, Rebecca Benson and husband, Jeff, Megan Forbes, Ryan Marsh and wife Ali, Kimberly Kem and husband, Andrew, Michael Marsh, Sarah Marsh, Joshua Ault and wife Rachel, Christopher Ault, Emily Ault, Stephanie Ault and four great grandchildren, Parker Alexander, Benjamin Alexander, Miles Kem, Jaxon Marsh and great grand baby Ault arriving in July.
