Eleanor Marie (Swanson) Mitchell, 90, Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at the Kansas City Hospice House.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 am on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the Overland Park Chapel, with the celebration of life at 10:30 am. A private family graveside service will be held at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens.
Eleanor was born in New Effington, South Dakota, on September 21, 1924, the second daughter of Signe Ostlund Swanson and Axel Swanson.
Eleanor grew up on the family farm with sisters, Phyllis and Dolores. Her brother, Bruce was born after Eleanor graduated from high school and had left the farm to work in Flint, Michigan during WWII.
Eleanor married Ted Ungerman in December 1945; they were together for 25 years. They had four daughters who were raised in Kansas City, MO.
In 1977 Eleanor married William “Len” Mitchell and together they enjoyed life traveling, winters in Mesa, Arizona, which included social activities, golf, darts, cards and visits with their children. After they retired, Len and Eleanor made Mesa their full-time residence.
Eleanor is survived by her four daughters, Julie Bowen, Carolyn Ungerman, Diana Swanson, River Jane Skybertter; four grandchildren, Blaise Ungerman, Andrew Charmley, Elizabeth Panek and Catherine Panek; sister, Dolores (Carl) Johnson; and brother, Bruce (Jan) Swanson.
