EDWARD P. (MICHASKI) MICHAELS
My father Ed passed away Sunday, April 3rd, 2011 at 5:20pm due to heart failure. My father was born on June 5th, 1925 to John Valenia & Mary Veronica (Kalis) Michalski, who immigrated to Historic Strawberry Hill from Poland.
My father and his 7 siblings grew up on 8th street on Strawberry Hill in K.C.K. After their father’s death at an early age, undaunted and full of youth, my father and his siblings finished their schooling at different ages and worked hard every day to support the family. Then came WWII and my father enlisted in the U.S. Army at the young age of 1.8. Dad then participated in the Normandy Campaign and the Northern France Campaigns as a scout for CO. B. 314th Infantry. While in one of the battles in the Northern France Campaign, father suffered a combat wound to his left hand resulting in the loss of 2 fingers. After months of Hospital in Northern France and the US, father was discharged honorably on 16, Dec. 1944. For his military service to our country, father was awarded the infantryman badge, Purple Heart and 2 Bronze Stars with the Eastern Theater Ribbon. My father had a passion for cars. That passion led him to Kelly Williams Motor Co. in K.C.K. In November of 1954 my father sold the First, 1955 Thunderbird. This led my father to a 33 yr. career in the Automotive Business in Kansas City. After Kelly Williams, father moved to Paul Greenlees Cadillac of KCMO. Over his career selling Cadillac's in the Kansas City Area, he sold for, Roach Cadillac, Greenlees Cadillac, and Major Cadillac. He sold Cadillac's, Royse Royce and Bentley's to the famous and non-famous in Kansas City and from all over the country. He treated each customer with the same respect and professionalism they deserved. My father was the Top Cadillac Motor Car Division Salesman many times. Many awards were posted at Major Cadillac, Jack Roach Cadillac for many years.
In the mid 80's father finally full-filled his dream of owning a Cadillac franchise and partnered with the O'Conner brothers in K.C.K., which formed O'Conner-Michaels Cadillac at 1313 Minnesota Ave. This was the smallest and oldest Cadillac franchise in the Kansas City Metro Area, with the "best" Customer Service. In 1987 I had the honor of working with my father as we turned around that small franchise, to win the Customer Satisfaction Award for Service and Sales, for the entire Cadillac Midwest Division. That award is still proudly displayed in his home today. In 1988 father retired to his favorite activity during his life time, Golf. There isn't one course in Kansas City he had not played, and boy, was he good. He also loved to have lunches at the old Romanelli's, Coaches and O'Neal's with his pals. He loved NFL Football and was one of the original season ticket holders of the Kansas City Chiefs, well, until those not so fun seasons in the 80's. In fact, one of our funniest memories of late is the imitation of Coach Haley speaking. He had that one "nailed". Sorry Coach.
In the last 2 ½ years here at his home my wonderful wife and best friend, Tricia Michaels was his pal and care taker. Tricia has worked very hard to provide to my father’s needs with the greatest home cooked meals in the world, supervismq medications, doctor appointments and so much more, that many think she should be a saint, Tricia was a GOD send for father. Oh, and he loved the family dog LilleeBean, our faithful Aussie/Sheppard. Well, it’s always hard to put into words how wonderful and a great person was when emotions are so high and low, My father deserves to be honored and mentioned as a man of compassion also, you see, this man and my deceased mother Mary Ruth (Robb) Michaels, adopted me in 1957 at the age of 4 months from someone who could not care for me. This man gave me a life that I would never have had, without his love, hard work and compassion, I may not be here today. We Love You Father.
My father was preceded in death by his loving wife and my mother Mary Ruth (Rob b) Michaels, fathers mother and father Mary & John Michalski, his sisters, Helen M. Creekmore, Stella Peneski, Josephine M. Abrambovitz, brothers, John W. Michalski, Joesph W. Michalski, Larry Michaels, Stanley J. Michalski, one surviving brother, Robert E. Michalski & his wife Annie (KC KS), me, his son, Terry Michaels & my best friend & wife Tricia Michaels (Overland Park, KS.), and my fathers Most Special Niece, Jeannine Michaels of Lee's Summit, MO. Other survivors included his grandson Jon Michaels & his wife Jenny of Topeka, KS., Justin Michaels & his wife Sara of Shawnee, KS., granddaughter Colby Sharp and husband Fritz of Kansas City, KS, granddaughters Katie Pasley of Olathe, KS, Megan Pasley of Leawood, KS, Natasha & Ashlee Michaels, of Olathe, KS, and one great granddaughter Brooklyn, and many nieces and nephews along with his buddy, LilleeBean the wonder dog.
At my father’s wishes his earthly body will be cremated with a private service of family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Catholic Charities of Kansas City, KS. or Animal Haven of Merriam, KS. In his name.
