Edna Burns Shreves, 90, of Warrensburg, MO, formerly of Lake Quivira, KS passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Western Missouri Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 16th at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 6306 Roe Avenue, Prairie Village, KS. Internment will follow in the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Edna was born March 29, 1919 in Lincoln Park, NJ to Albert Logan Burns and Ruth Elizabeth (Gilbert) Burns. She graduated from Wichita East High School in Wichita, KS and attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Edna was very involved in Tri-Delta activities throughout her entire life. She wed John T. Shreves on June 18, 1939 in Wichita, KS and they were married 54 wonderful years. Edna’s family and many friends always enjoyed her great sense of humor and quick wit. She was a loving grandmother to her seven grandchildren and they will miss her dearly. Edna was a long standing member of Southminster Presbyterian Church and was active in craft, book and garden clubs, as well as the Lake Quivira golf club. Edna was preceded in death by her brothers, Gilbert and Robert Burns; and her husband, John Shreves in 1993. Survivors include her children, Shirley Schroeder, Mesquite, NV, Diane (Bill) Gray, Lilburn, GA and Phil (LuRae) Shreves, Warrensburg, MO; grandchildren, Brian Stevens, Lara Stevens, Heather Etheridge, Leslie Ray, Darin Shreves, Katherine Shreves and Amanda Shreves; five great granddaughters; and her sisters, Ozeta Denton, Denver, CO and Betty Hooper, Wichita, KS.
