Edith Marie Wolters (nee Wehmeyer), 83, of Westwood, KS, went to her eternal home on June 18, 2022. She was born to Oscar and Freida Wehmeyer (nee Block) on August 2, 1938. Edith was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rosebud, MO. In 1956, Edith graduated from Owensville High School (MO). The first in her family to attend college, Edith, went to St. Paul’s College in Concordia, MO, and graduated from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, NE. After beginning her teaching career in Denver, CO, she married Paul Edward Wolters on August 20, 1960. In 1965, Edith and Paul moved to Kansas City, KS, joined the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour (OSL) and continued teaching. Edith started preschools at Bethany Lutheran Church in 1966 and OSL in 1970. In 1973, Edith received a Master’s degree in Special Education, Learning Disabilities from CMSU. Later at UMKC, she completed all course work for a Master’s in Psychology. Edith dedicated her life to children with learning disabilities and worked with students privately and in the KCMO School District until her retirement in 2009. Edith’s interests and hobbies included reading, volunteering at her church in many capacities, spending quality time at the lake and with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her parents, stepmother, and sister Doris Brandt. Edith is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Lynn Rule (Richard), daughter, Nancy Jane Wolters Knudsen (Michael), and grandchildren, Spencer Waldemar Knudsen (Frances), Eleanor Grace Knudsen, Paul Wolters Knudsen, and by her brother Herb Wehmeyer and sister Darlene Meyer. On June 18, Edith died peacefully at Duke Hospital and joined her heavenly family. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 24, at OSL, 4153 Rainbow Boulevard, Kansas City, KS. The funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday June 25, at OSL. A private family internment will be held in Rosebud, MO at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the OSL Food Pantry or The Lutheran Hour Ministries.
