Dorothy H. Morris, 78, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011. Funeral services will be held at St. Pius X, 5500 Woodson Road, Mission, KS, Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 5-7 p.m., at D.W.Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children's TLC in memory of Dorothy Morris.
Dorothy was born September 16, 1932 in Kansas City, MO. She received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees at the University of Kansas. She became the Executive Director of the Crippled Children's Nursery School (now known as Children's TLC) in 1966 shortly after the school's affiliation with Children's Mercy Hospital. An occupational/physical therapist, Dorothy had practical knowledge and tireless passion for the mission of the school. She retired in 1991 after 25 years of leadership. She was an insightful, caring, and patient Executive Director.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nellie Mae Morris. Survivors include her son, Mark Morris; and brother, John F. (Barbara) Morris; and niece, Karen; nephews Mike and Frank.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Santa Marta, Kansas City Hospice, Creative Care Consultants, and Dorothy's special caregivers Linda, Paula, Catie, Michelle, Mary Alice, and Lynne.
