DOROTHY JANE HANSON
Dorothy Jane Hanson, 87, of Chase County, KS, died on July 6, 2011. Dorothy was born on April 2, 1924 on Sweetwater Farm, Toledo Township, KS. She graduated from Saffordville High School in 1942 and was Valedictorian of her class. She received her Teaching Certificate and her Master’s Degree from Kansas State Teacher’s College in Emporia, KS. She taught Kindergarten for 42 years with two years in Cherryvale, KS, 10 years in Atchison, KS and 30 years in Topeka, KS. She retired from teaching in 1987. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Sigma Chapter and the Cottonwood Friends Church. She was preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Jewel Hanson Neff, and her parents, George Hanson and Anna C. Harvey Hanson. She is survived by her children, Timothy Neff (wife, Bernadette), Gig Harbor, WA; Renee Neff-Clark (husband, Alan Clark), Westwood, KS; grandchildren, Rachel Neff, Samantha Neff, Spencer Neff, and Jeremiah Clark; three nephews and their spouses; four great-nephews, three great-nieces, two great-great nephews and six great-great nieces. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2011 at the D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66204. Memorial Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9th at Second Presbyterian Church, 318 E. 55th, Kansas City, MO. Cards/condolences may be left in c/o the funeral home.
