Doris Renne, 90, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on November 8th, 2011.
Doris, known as Dodie, was born on November 8, 1921, to Robert and Theresa Train of Independence, Missouri, where her father ran the Train Poultry Farm Hatchery. Their family home is now the Mansion House on Sterling Road. She graduated in the class of 1939 from William Chrisman High School. She attended Christian College in Columbia, Missouri, where she participated in the Dance Group and the University of Missouri, where she was a Kappa Alpha Theta. In 1942 she married Grant Renne Jr. and they made their home in Kansas City as he took over the family business, Grant Renne & Sons Foundation Repair Co. She was a member of Mission Hills Country Club, the Wives of Rotarians, where she served as President, and St. Andrews Episcopal Church. She volunteered her time at the church serving on the Altar Guild, Trinity Guild, managing the bookstore and helping in the office. Her efforts were honored by the staff of St. Andrews with a "Dodie Day" celebration of which she was most proud. She also volunteered with the St. Lukes Hospital Auxillary and at the Delano School.
Dodie was an extraordinary homemaker who enjoyed cooking and was featured in the KC Star's "Come into My Kitchen" column. She loved nature, gardening and became an avid bird watcher. She was also grateful for the opportunity to travel overseas in her later years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who gave freely of herself and always thought of others first.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Bobbie Train. She is survived by her son, Grant Renne III, his wife Ann and their children Ryan and Ross; daughter Linda Renne Fairchild, her husband Richard and their children, Maggie and Cullen.
