Donald Gilmore Peterson, 92, of Overland Park, KS passed away April 15, 2008 at St.Luke?s Hospital Plaza.
Donald was born March 29, 1916 in Alsen, South Dakota. He worked for Standard Oil/Amoco Oil as an accounting supervisor for 40 years. During his tenure with Standard Oil/Amoco, he started in Sioux City, IA, then transferred to Mason City, IA, Des Moines, IA and finally to Kansas City, MO in 1962. He attended the University of South Dakota and Sioux City, IA business college in the 1930?s. He served in the Navy during WWII.
Mr. Peterson played softball in the 1940?s as a player/manager. After retirement he did tax preparation and financial planning for friends and family. He was an avid follower of the KC Royals, KC Chiefs and KU basketball sports teams. He also loved vegetable gardening and raising flowers. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed serving them his famous homemade waffles for breakfast.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Mary Rose Peterson, on March 18, 1995; sisters Iona Dilley and Avis Ekren and a brother Elwin Peterson. Survivors include a brother, Keith (Jim) Peterson and a sister, Lorraine Zeller; two sons, Jay Peterson and David Peterson and a daughter Carole Robbins; grandchildren Peter Robbins, Bryan Robbins, Greg Peterson, Amy Peterson, Alicia Peterson, Austin Peterson and Erica Peterson; and great-grandchildren Tyler Robbins and Brady Robbins.
