Psalm 116:15 ?Blessed in the eyes of the Lord is the death of His saints.? Donald L. Baas was called to his heavenly home on December 21, 2007 at his home in Prairie Village, Kansas.
In 1954, Don left his home in Columbus, Ohio for the Navy. It was overseas that he served his country for four years and in this time found the love of his life, Jane Arey Thompson, his wife of forty-nine years. His passion was his family.
Don was independent, kind hearted, compassionate, fair and selfless as a husband, father, friend, a coach in his children?s sports and a referee for the local community sports programs in basketball and football.
He leaves his devoted wife, Arey; his brothers John B. Baas and wife Marie and Frederick (Fritz) L. Baas and wife Ruth; his sisters Sharon Kenney, Carol E. Baas and Claire Kessler and husband Wendell; his children Steven F. Baas and wife Sally, Sarah E. Miller and Scott M. Baas and wife Sharon; his grandchildren Samantha, Katherine, Donald and Paige.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 27, 2007 at St. Paul?s Episcopal Church, 11 E. 40th St., KC, MO 64111 (40th and Main). Visitation will be Wednesday evening, December 26, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Burial in Mount Washington Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice or St. Paul?s Episcopal Church.
Those that knew Don will cherish his memory and treasure the time spent together. He lived life on his own terms. May God shine His face upon this good man.
