David John Petrie went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 19, 2014. While it was an unexpected passing to those of us left behind, we know the Lord has plans for this great young man that we have yet to understand.
David was born on August 23, 1991, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and has made everyone around him smile and laugh since that date. His infectious smile is something everyone gravitated towards and his penchant for adventure will always be remembered.
David was a 2009 graduate of the Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, Kansas, and attended Johnson County Community College. He was employed with FedEx Ground as a package handler.
His passions were wrestling, fishing, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the great outdoors. David holds the wrestling take-down record at BVNW to date and prided himself on having more wrestling pins than his twin brother, Adam. It was a loving rivalry they shared together which brought years of great memories for both.
David is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John Calvin Piper and Donna (Black) Piper, both formerly of Duncansville, PA.
He is survived by his beloved twin brother, Adam Robert Petrie of Olathe, KS, his parents Pamela Piper of Olathe and Dennis Petrie of Olathe as well. David is survived by his paternal grandparents, Bob & Phyllis Petrie of Duncansville, PA. David is also survived by his Aunt Penny (Piper) Basom of Snead Ferry, NC, Steve (uncle) & Cathy (aunt) Smith of Newry, PA, and Bob (uncle) & Cindy (aunt) Petrie of Gansevoort, NY. His cousins, Tiffany, Kelsey, Jennifer, Kelly, Jason, Justin, Jared and Joshua. David is also survived by Tessa and Peyton Daugherty of Olathe, KS, his special friend and unofficial little brother. His surviving list of friends would be too long to mention here as David never met a stranger. If he met you once, he would consider you a friend for life.
Visitation will be held this Thursday, July 24, 2014, from 6 – 9pm at the Johnson County Funera07/l Chapel & Memorial Gardens located at 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS 66210. Funeral services will be held at the same location on Friday, July 25, 2014, at 11am. Guests are welcome to attend an informal gathering afterwards at his mom’s home in Olathe, KS.
