David Mirostaw

January 7, 1953 — May 4, 2011

David John Mirostaw died Wednesday, May 4th at the age of 58 after a three year battle with cancer. He passed away at home with his wife and four children by his side.
David, a lifelong resident of Johnson County, graduated from Bishop Miege High School in 1971 and attended the University of Kansas before earning his degree from Pittsburg State University.
The strength and perseverance he displayed while fighting his illness was indicative of the way he lived his life. David spent 36 years painting homes in the Kansas City area and was often described as the hardest working man anyone knew. While he took great pride in his work, David was known to be most fulfilled by his children. He often spoke of his family and their endeavors, providing a testament to his life as a devoted and nurturing father.
David was preceded in death by his parents, John Mirostaw and Sheila Williams, and his nephew Brandon O’Neal. He is survived by his wife, Gail Mirostaw, and their children – Jay, Jill, Julie and Jordan Mirostaw – his sister and brother-in-law, Cheryle and Tom O’Neal, and his niece, McKenzie O’Neal.
A memorial celebration to toast David will be held on Monday, May 9th at Renée Kelly’s at Caenen Castle (12401 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS) from 6pm until 10pm. In lieu of flowers, David’s family suggests a donation to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (www.mskcc.org) or Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care (www.kansascityhospice.org or 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 100, Kansas City, MO 64114).
