DAVID WILLIAM DENNY
January 25, 1932 – October 2, 2011
On January 25 1932 a little boy was born by the name of David William Denny to two loving parents by the name of Lee and Stella Denny. He was borneH
H in a small cozy home in Liberal, Mo. He grew up in Pittsburg, Ks in a large family with 7 siblings.
He spent his care-free high school year at Pittsburg high. Shortly after graduating he decided to see the world and joined the United States Navy. He served during the Korean War and was a witness to the Atomic bomb testing that took place.
Shortly after returning from war he met the love of his life. On August 12, 1955, after a short whirlwind romance of 6 months he married Shirley Louise Dykes . After the wedding, the two bounced around until they settled down in Prairie Village, Ks. There they lived in a small quant home where on March 13, 1962 they became a family with the arrival of David William Denny Jr. After one short year they welcomed Denise Louise Denny into the family.
He was a dependable and loyal employee at L.G. Barcus and sons construction. After 38 years of working construction he decided to retire and spend his time with the love of his life. But the attraction, availability and indulgence of cigarettes back in his earlier years helped bring upon failing lung issues. After a two year struggle with Leukemia he lost the battle and the Lord called him home on Oct. 2, 2011. He is up in heaven looking down and smiling.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lee and Stella and his siblings Frank, Lonnie, Claude, Vola, Jaunita and Katherine. He is survived by his wife Shirley, his sister Lula, his children David and Denise, and 5 grandchildren William, Johnny, Ashley, Kyle and Nancy.
Funeral services will be 1 pm Thursday, October 6, 2011 at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel with a visitation prior from 12 – 1 pm; burial in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Mid-America Chapter, 6811 Shawnee Mission Pkwy Suite 202, Cloverleaf Bldg 1, Shawnee Mission, KS 66202-4001.
