1941-2014
Darrell "DJ" Jay Good, age 73, of Shawnee, KS, passed away at home on Saturday, April 5, 2014. He was born on March 28, 1941 in Waynoka, Oklahoma to his parents Douglas and Francis Good. Darrell was the youngest of seven children. Darrell graduated from Waynoka High School in 1959 and continued his education at Garden City Community College. He married Kathryn Ann King in Syracuse, Kansas, in 1963. They had two children Darren Jeffrey and Derek Jay. Darrell was a Shawnee, KS resident for 25 years. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railway for 41 years and retired as an assistant superintendent of communications. Darrell was a member of the Masons, Scottish Rite and the Shrine. He was elected City Commissioner of Dodge City, KS. 1978 to 1980. Darrell was heavily involved with youth baseball for 30+ years and a passionate University of Kansas basketball fan. He was honored with many awards including Crappie USA's Sportsman of the Year, Volunteer of the Year for SE Oklahoma's Kiamichi Country and Lake Eufaula Association. Darrell was married for 50 years and is survived by his wife Kathryn of the home, Darren Jeffrey and wife, Jennifer of Lee's Summit, MO and daughter-in-law, Heather of Shawnee, KS, and granddaughters, Lauren Grace and Kara Allison. He is also survived by his sister, Mabel Clothier. Darrell was preceded in death by parents, Douglas and Francis Good, his son, Derek and his brothers, Vernon and Floyd and sisters, Inez, Constance, and Flora. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014, from 1-2 PM at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel 8201 Metcalf Av. Overland Park, KS followed by a 2 PM funeral service. Masonic graveside service will follow at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens at 23215 W. 75th Street, Shawnee, KS. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations in Darrell's memory to The 3 and 2 Baseball Club of Johnson County P.O. Box 14011, Lenexa, KS 66285.
