DAPHNE ELIZABETH CARRAS
Daphne Elizabeth Carras, 86, of Mission, KS, passed away Thursday at Overland Park Nursing Center. Daphne was married for 65 years to George. She was born in Lancaster, SC and was raised in Great Falls, SC. Daphne and George met in 1945 in Washington, D.C. where she worked during World War II for the F.B.I. George was a Marine Corps staff sergeant attending bomb disposal school, after serving in several South Pacific campaigns.
They were married in September, 1945 in Washington. After he was discharged, they moved to George’s hometown, Kansas City. Daphne worked 32 years at Farmer’s Insurance Co. She was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Christian Church, where she belonged to the Ladies Philoptochos Charitable Society. She also was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Charitable Society.
She was preceded in death by her son, John; by her parents Flo and John Cantey, and brothers Gilbert and Jack Cantey.
Daphne was a very loving and gregarious person who cared very much about helping others. She will be dearly missed by George, who was her best friend.
Daphne embraced the Greek community and was very thankful over her many years in Kansas City for the friendship and warmth which flowed both ways between her and the Annunciation community. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf. Trisagion Service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 12001 Wornall Rd. Kansas City, MO ; burial at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church.
