Craig Steffen

Craig Orlyn Steffen, age 58, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022 in Houston, Texas.  He was participating in a cancer clinical trial at MD Anderson at the time of his death. He was with and comforted by his wife, Janice, and daughter, Layne.  Craig was born on March 19, 1963 in Larned, Kansas to Ruth and Vern Steffen. He grew up on a farm in Burdett, KS.  Craig graduated from Larned High School and completed a bachelor’s degree in business from Baker University. He was an assistant golf pro in KC for two years.  He worked in the pump industry for 30+ years initially in sales and later owned a pump distributorship, ASC Pumping Equipment.  He married Janice Ott on August 29, 1998 and together had a daughter, Layne. He also had a daughter, Amanda, and adopted son, Kevin, from a previous marriage. The Steffens are long time members of Christ Lutheran Church.

Craig was a loving husband and father, an entrepreneur, and friend to all.  He lived his life to the fullest and was always helping others.  He was a natural athlete, a competitor and a leader.  He played football, golf, and basketball in high school and golf in college.  He especially loved playing golf throughout his life.  He participated with his team, 3 Men and a Butt, in several BBQ competitions.  He was a private pilot early in life first soloing on his 16th birthday.  Craig was a supportive soccer and dance dad, and adored spending time with his girls.  He enjoyed home improvement DIY projects and adventure trips with his friends and family.  He could often be found drinking a beer with friends.

Craig is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Vern, brother, Tony, and son, Kevin. He is survived by his wife, Janice, and daughters, Amanda and Layne.
