Clarence V. Wendte

March 31, 1926 — December 5, 2012

Clarence V. Wendte passed away on December 5, 2012 and now is in the arms of his Lord. Clarence was born on March 31, 1926 on a farm near Canton, KS to Henry and Manda (Prothe) Wendte, the last of four children. As was typical of The Greatest Generation, at the age of 17, Clarence enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for 2-1/2 years on an LST in the South Pacific. Upon returning to the Kansas City area, he was hired as a machinist by the Santa Fe Railway where he remained until retirement, 45 years later. He met and was joined in marriage with his soul mate and love of his life, Ardyth (Goetze). He was always an active member in the Lutheran Church. In his retirement years, Clarence loved spending time with family and friends, golfing, ballroom dancing and winters in Florida.
Survivors include his wife, Ardyth; son David and wife Cathy, with grandsons Alex and Matthew; grandson Andy and wife Laura, with great-grandchildren Dominick and Abigail; and grandson Adam and wife Lindsey. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Walter and Orval, and sister, Hulda.
We are blessed to have shared precious time with him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and remain in our hearts forever.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 9th, from 5-7 PM, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00AM, Monday, December 10th, at Hope Lutheran Church, 6308 Quivira Road, Shawnee, Kansas. Interment following at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS.
