Charlotte Gilbert Romain, 84, died Sunday evening August 30, 2009 at Lakeview Village Care Center, surrounded by her family. The memorial service will be at 2 pm Sunday, September 6, 2009 at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall, Overland Park, KS. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Her final resting place will be at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Charlotte was born March 23, 1925 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1947 with a BS degree in Public Health Nursing. She married Edward D. Romain on June 19, 1948. They settled in Overland Park in 1965 and Charlotte worked for a period of time at the old General Hospital in Kansas City, MO. She was a long time member of Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church.
Charlotte’s talents in her kitchen and flower garden were extraordinary. She was an active member of the Kansas City Garden club and in recent years attained the status of a Certified Flower Judge. She was a talented decorator with a historical knowledge of antiques and volunteered for many years at The John Wornall House Museum. Playing bridge was a life long hobby. Her interest in family genealogy led to a membership in the Mayflower Society.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Edward D. Romain in 2003. She is survived by her brothers Luther Gilbert of North Hollywood, CA and Bradbury Gilbert of Pigeon, MI. She leaves three sons and their wives, Dr. Mark G. Romain and wife Clare of Lenexa, KS, Jonathan E. Romain and wife Julia of Wichita, KS and Peter H. Romain and wife Lisa of Overland Park, KS. There are seven grandchildren Jeremy, Suzanne, Anne, Andrew, Christopher, Brian and Meghan (husband Brent Burkholder) and two great-grandchildren Sophia and Isabella. Her family and friends will always miss her.
