Charles Schwab, 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, November 11. Visitation will be held at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons chapel at 8201 Metcalf at noon on Saturday, November 15, with a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to National Kidney Foundation, 6405 Metcalf Avenue, Suite 204, Overland Park, Kansas 66202.
Charles was born September 27, 1916 in Mount Washington, Missouri to Fred and Mabel Schwab. He was raised on his family dairy farm in Little Blue, Missouri, and graduated from Raytown High School in 1934. He graduated from University of Health Sciences in 1939, and met his future wife Jen during his general surgery residency in Wichita. Charles was the only doctor practicing in Overland Park, Kansas during World War II. He practiced there until his retirement at the age of 78.
Charles was a member of the International Cardiovascular Foundation, AOA, Kiwanis, Hillcrest Country Club, and Garden of the Gods Club. His passions were golf (five holes-in-one!), gardening, and world travel with his wife Jen.
Charles was preceded in death by Jen in 1997. He is survived by his son Charles and wife Susan, son Paul and wife Jeanne, daughter Jean and husband Gerald McNamara, 10 grandchildren, about eight great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mary Gibson and Rose Marsh, and family friend Sharon Paton.
