Charlie Pearson, 83, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 at Leawood United Methodist Church. Another memorial service will be held at the Garfield Lutheran Church with burial to follow in Garfield Cemetery on Friday Sept. 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages the donor to contribute and support their local church, scout troop, and service clubs.
Charlie was born July 4, 1929 in Larned, KS to Alex and Mabel Pearson. He grew up in Garfield, KS where he graduated from high school. Charlie attended Ft. Hays State College and later graduated from Missouri Valley College with a degree in Humanics under the influence of H. Roe Bartle. He married LuEtta Marie Hanson August 28, 1949 In WaKeeney, KS. Charlie enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea from 1952-1953. Upon his return he continued to serve in the Army Reserves until his retirement in 1972 as Command Sergeant Major. Charlie was a District Executive for the Boy Scouts of America, serving the Kansas councils of Kanza, Jayhawk, Coronado, and Council Executive for Santa Fe Trail. He then went on to serve as Council Executive for the state of Montana. Charlie served for a brief time in Boulder, CO before moving to the Kansas City area in 1987 to be near his family. He was very active in his local Rotary Clubs, serving as President and District Governor. Charlie was always active in his local church, most recently Leawood United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, LuEtta Pearson. Survivors include his daughter, Cherie (David) Brown; and a granddaughter, Rebekah Brown.
