Charles C. Molina, 82, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012. Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2012 at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall Ave, Overland Park, KS 66207. A visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to The Kansas City Jazz Orchestra, P.O. Box 12841, Shawnee Mission, KS 66282; the music ministries of First Presbyterian Church , 110 E. Peoria, Paola, KS 66071, or Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church.
Charlie was born July 13, 1930 in East Chicago, IN to Bonifacio and Senovia Molina. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, KS in 1948. He attended the University of Kansas where he met E. Joyce Rohrer and they were married in 1952 in Lawrence, KS. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and after his discharge completed his BME and MME degrees from the University of Kansas. Charlie was a music educator in Blue Rapids, KS; North Kansas City, MO; and Paola, KS where he also taught Spanish. He was a co-owner of Funk and Molina Music in Paola and Olathe, KS. Charlie also worked as a sales representative for LeBlanc and United Musical Instrument Co. He was a member of the Paola Lions Club and was the business manager of the Kansas Lions International Band for many years.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Molina; his sisters: Irene Elizando, Ana Poppenhouse, and Esther Clayborn. Survivors include his two children: Patrice Molina (Jay) Sollenberger; and David (Jacqueline ) Molina; grandchildren: Brandon (Megan) Sollenberger, Nathanael, Gabrielle, Anneliese, and Stephanie Molina.
