Cathye Olson PhD, 63, of Overland Park, KS, died at her home on June 20th, 2010 of cancer. Cathye was an accomplished teacher and business woman who dedicated her life to serving the Kansas City area special needs community. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1974, a Masters of General Psychology in 1979, and a Masters of School Psychology in 1988 from Emporia State University and earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Special Education from the University of Kansas in 1994. After completing her doctoral studies, she served for several years as a special education teacher at Central Middle School in Kansas City, Missouri and also taught at several area colleges. In 2001, Cathye founded Another Day Incorporated and then in 2004, Another Day Homecare, companies which provide assistance to individuals and families with special needs in both Kansas and Missouri. As a passionate advocate for individuals with special needs, she served over four years on the Executive Board for the Kansas Federation of the Council for Exceptional Children. Cathye marched to her own drummer and had a quirky and playful sense of humor. She was fiercely loyal to her many friends. She touched countless lives and will be sorely missed by her family, friends and many members of the special needs community. She is survived by brother, Greg Olson, her nephew, Travis Olson, her niece, Valerie Olson, and the many others she considered her family. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30-12:30pm on Saturday July 17, 2010 at Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty Street, Overland Park, KS.
