Carol Lee Sherrell, 82, of Overland park, KS, mother and best friend to her daughters, Lynn Sherrell and Lee Sherrell Watkins, passed away on October 23, 2012 after an extended illness from cancer.
Carol was born on May 31, 1930 in St. Joseph, Mo. She was a graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute and remained an artist all her life. She operated her own business, the Downstairs, and was retired but active in her church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Sherrell; her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Harry Tilden; and nephew Jim Tilden. She is also survived by her nephews and niece, Harry Tilden and family, Tom Tilden and family, and Linda Thompson, as well as Scott Rouse and family, and son-in-law Paul Watkins.
Carol was known for her beautiful Bavarian folk art painting and the baking mixes and gifts assembled for shops and Handcrafters shows for many years, as well as being a chocolate connoisseur. She also had a warm and open heart for her pets and in her support at Christmas of Rose Brooks Center and Christmas Families' Red Bag program.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice or Heartland SPCA (Animal Haven).
A celebration of Carol's life will be held on Friday, October, 26th, 11:00 AM, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 7851 West 119th Street Overland Park. Fond memories and condolences for the family may be left at www.overlandparkchapel.com
