Carl A. Schmidt, at 88 years of age, died peacefully at Bishop Spencer Place on June 14th, 2007. Memorial Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday June 18th, 2007 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1700 Westport Road, Kansas City, MO. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Cremation. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Carl Schmidt was born October 8, 1918 to Carl P. Schmidt and Libby Buzzard. He was born and raised in the Kansas City area and is a Rosedale High School Graduate. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty A. Schmidt. Other close family members include his daughter, Kay Johnson, grandchildren Carl Johnson, and Kathryn Johnson, Betty's brother Art Johnson and his wife Joanne, and his brother David Schmidt and his wife.
Carl served in the Navy during WWII. For approximately 40 years Carl, Betty, and Art owned and operated Johnson's Hardware at 39th and Bell. He enjoyed fishing with his friends, woodworking, working on projects for the church and home, and assisting family and friends when needed. He was an active member of the B.O.W. club, set up after the war to bring the group of bachelor friends together on a regular basis. Carl was also a very active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers family suggests memorials be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
