Burl W. Sherry, 91, of Shawnee, KS passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007. Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Saturday, June 30 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf. Visitation is from 10:00 to 12:00 P.M., prior to the service. Burial in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, Shawnee, KS. Burl was born June 18, 1916 in La Rue, Arkansas. He was married to his wife of 50 years, Norma Sherry. They resided in Shawnee, KS for 46 years. Burl retired from Sunshine Biscuit, where he worked as a baker for 28 years. During WW II, he briefly served with the Coast Artillery and worked at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant. Burl grew up in Northwest Arkansas where he learned truck farming, orchard work and his mechanical skills. He had a passion for gardening and loved to tinker on tractors, cars and small engines. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Braughton of Shawnee, KS; sister, Estell Stamps of Van Buren, AR and brother, John Sherry of Rogers, AR. Survivors include his wife, Norma Sherry, Shawnee, KS; sons, Wesley Sherry, Linwood, KS; Clifford Rhoades, Elizabeth, CO; Clinton Rhoades, Edwardsville, KS; daughter, Joyce Lovell, Spring Hill, KS; sister, Elizabeth Coble, Van Buren, AR; brother, Albert Sherry, Newton, KS.
