Betty Witherspoon Nevill, age 88, of Overland Park, Kansas, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at her home following a long illness. She was born in New Orleans, September 5, 1919, the daughter of Guy P. Witherspoon and Virginia Guitar Witherspoon, and lived most of her life in Houston, Texas, with her husband, Guy Lilburn Nevill, an oil and gas lawyer and long-time counsel for The Dow Chemical Company.
?Predeceasing her were her parents and husband, as well as her brothers Guy and John Witherspoon of Fort Worth.
Betty Nevill is survived by her daughters Gayle Nevill Nicolay (Ken) of Fairway, Kansas, and Virginia Nevill Hoff (Timothy), of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, as well as seven grandchildren: Katherine Baker and Guy Baker, Birmingham, Alabama; Brandon Nicolay, Chicago; Ward Nicolay and Ken Nicolay, Fairway; and Brian and Morgan Hoff, Tuscaloosa.
A wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, Betty Nevill was known for her ever-present smile and laughter. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge with her many friends, and took the greatest pleasure in enjoying outings and vacations with her extended family. Betty attended Southern Methodist University and was a member of BraeBurn Country Club in Houston MDPC.
A celebration of Betty?s life will take place at The Forum at Overland Park, at a time to be announced.
Graveside services for Mrs. Nevill will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Highway, Houston, TX 77079.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, friends make donations to The American Cancer Society or to The Good Shepherd Hospice, 7611 State Line Road, Ste. 200, Kansas City, MO 64114.
