September 14, 1922 — March 1, 2008

Betty Mae Karos, 85, Mission Hills, KS, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2008 at St. Joseph Health Center. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, March 5th at St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church, 8100 W. 95th Street, Overland Park, KS. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf with Trisagion services at 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church or Wayside Waifs, 3901 Martha Truman Road, Grandview, MO 64137.
Betty was born in Kansas City, Missouri and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City where she received her Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Mathematics. She worked for TWA for 50 years retiring in 1986 as a computer programmer. She was a former member of the Board of Directors of the UMKC Alumni Association, a member of The Order of The Eastern Star, and many other civic and professional organizations. She was a member of St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Peter W. and Jennie M. Karos of Mission Hills who owned and operated nine restaurants throughout the Metropolitan area including The Peerless Caf? and her sister and brother-in-law Irene H. and William C. Vleisides of Leawood. Survivors include a nephew, Gregory W. Vleisides and a niece, Barbara Vleisides of Leawood and numerous cousins throughout the United States. Betty was a very caring and giving individual who always put the needs of others before her own. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
