Betty Beck Favreau, 90, of Overland Park passed away October 21, 2009 at her home. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 24 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 75th & Nall, Prairie Village. The family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. in the church parlor. Private burial to follow the service.
Betty was born February 22, 1919 in Emporia, KS, to Elmer and Clara Beck. Betty grew up in Dwight, KS, and graduated from Dwight High School. She attended Washburn University in Topeka before transferring to the University of Missouri where she received her degree from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. Betty moved to Kansas City in 1945. Betty was an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta where she received “70 Year Theta” recognition. She was a member of the Kansas City Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta and served as the chapter’s president for two years. Betty was also an active member of Chapter GP, P.E.O. Betty was a member of the Washburn Alumni Association and past president of the University of Kansas Sigma Chi Mother’s Club. One of her greatest joys was being a grandmother.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Willard, son Allan, and brother John W. Beck. Survivors include son Rich, daughter-in-law Marita and grandsons Evan and Sean Favreau all of Prairie Village, stepson Dean Hill and wife Noni of Alexandria, VA, and their sons Brooks and Dustin (Amy). Also surviving are nieces Laurie Beck, Reno, Nancy Larkin, Austin, and nephews John Beck (Paula), Phoenix, Kenley Beck (Karen), Prairie Village, and Dr. David Fardon (Judy), Chicago.
The family would like to extend our most sincere thanks to the following individuals and organizations who helped Betty so much as her health declined: Beth and her staff at the Forum of Overland Park, Charlene, Martha and others of Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, and the wonderful caregivers of Benefits of Home Senior Care: Megan, Nicole, Dionne, Kim, Holly, Michelle, Katie, Christine, Sandra, Crystal, Jacqueline, Brenda, and Kristen. The family would also like to thank Betty’s many friends and family who filled her life with love and friendship. Words are not enough.
