Bernice Swanson

Bernice C. Swanson, 89, of Overland Park, Ks, went to be with her Lord on 7-14-09. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 18th, with a service to follow at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, with burial in Floral Hills Cemetery.
Bernice was born August 17, 1919, in Osage City, Ks and was a resident of the Kansas City area for nearly 80 years. She graduated from Central High School in 1936. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She married Carl W. Swanson on April 18, 1942. Bernice and Carl devoted their lives to each other, their daughter, and the First Covenant Church. Bernice was a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, choir member and served on the Church’s Board of Christian Education for many years. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She will be remembered by many of her Sunday School pupils who were nurtured by her love and concern for their Christian upbringing. In her last years, she was a member of Hillcrest Covenant Church.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Carl, her parents, Gunard and Ethel Gustafson, and her brothers Harley G. Gustafson and Robert E. Gustafson. She is survived by her daughter Doris Jean Marrs and husband Steve, a grandson Jeffrey S. Marrs, his wife Jan, and two great grandchildren Ashley Lane, and Carlie Marie, and a granddaughter, Krista Ann Robinson. She also leaves her brother, John H. Gustafson and his wife Caroline, of Denver, Colorado.
